Add cane to cabinet doors

Most cane doors are made by opening up the center panel and fixing cane to the back of the frame. Buy cane in pairs from one roll so the doors match, or order sheets and panels cut to your size.

How it is done

  1. Measure the opening on the back of each door and add a margin for fixing.
  2. Cut out or remove the center panel and sand the edges.
  3. Cut the cane to size, shiny side facing out.
  4. Staple the cane to the back of the frame, working from the middle of each side.
  5. Glue and fix a thin trim strip over the staples for a clean edge.

Tip: Hiding shelves? Herringbone (closed weave) shows less of what is inside than open weave.
