Cane panels made to size, framed or unframed

A cane panel is cane webbing that is already cut to size, or already set in a wooden frame, so you do not have to work from a roll. This collection is for anyone refacing cabinet doors, building a headboard or room divider, or filling a door insert who would rather start with a piece that fits.

There are four ways to buy. A made-to-size framed panel is a solid-wood frame with cane set in, built to the width and height you enter, in oak, walnut-tone, black or white, with open, square or herringbone weave. A made-to-size cane sheet is cane cut to your size with no frame, for stapling behind a frame you already have. Precut sheets and cabinet door inserts come in set sizes, packed flat with no roll curl; the inserts come in pairs cut from the same roll, so two doors match. Headboard panels in twin to king widths are large, so they are ordered through a quote request.

Measure carefully, because made-to-size pieces are cut to your numbers. For a framed panel that drops into a door, measure the rabbet or opening it has to fill, not the outside of the door. For an unframed sheet behind a frame, measure the opening and add at least 1 in on every side for stapling. The cabinet door guide covers the rest of the job.

For each made-to-size panel we email a drawing with the final dimensions, and we cut only after you approve it.

  • For a door insert, measure the rabbet or opening, not the outside of the door.
  • Sizes go in 1/4 in steps; measure twice before you enter them.
  • Check the emailed drawing against your opening before you approve it.
  • Herringbone hides what is inside a cabinet; open and square weave let it show.
  • For a pair of doors, the cabinet door inserts are cut from the same roll so they match.

Questions

Should I order a framed panel or an unframed sheet?

Order a framed panel when you need a new door, insert or wall piece. Order an unframed sheet when you already have the frame and only need cane to glue and staple behind it.

How big can you make a panel?

Framed panels run from 6 to 48 in wide and 6 to 72 in tall, and unframed sheets from 6 to 36 in wide and 6 to 72 in long, both in 1/4 in steps. For a framed panel larger than 48 x 72 in, or more than 10 panels, ask for a trade quote.

Can I get diamond weave in a made-to-size panel?

Made-to-size panels and sheets come in open, square or herringbone weave. Diamond weave is sold by the roll, including a 48 in wide sheet, if you want to frame it yourself.

Does the headboard panel come with mounting hardware?

Not as standard. If you need hardware, mention it in your quote request, and it can be agreed in the quote.
