Zero Gravity Chair Replacement Cords, Elastic Bungee Laces, 4 Pack
Four elastic bungee cords for re-lacing the fabric of a folding zero gravity recliner to its frame when the old cords stretch out or snap.
A folding zero gravity (anti-gravity) recliner does not bolt its fabric to the frame. It laces it on with elastic cord. The cord runs through the eyelets along the edge of the fabric and through the holes in the frame, down each side of the chair. After a few seasons the elastic stretches out and the seat sags, or a cord snaps and one side lets go. These four elastic bungee cords replace them.
Most chairs use one long cord per side. Before you start, take photos of the old lacing, or leave one side laced as your guide, because you will copy it exactly.
To re-lace:
- If you like, hold the fabric to the frame with a few zip ties so it does not shift while the cord is out.
- Cut or untie the old cord on one side and pull it out.
- Knot one end of the new cord, or tie it to the frame where the old cord started.
- Thread it through the first fabric eyelet and the matching frame hole, then on to the next, in the same order as the old cord.
- Pull it snug as you go, but not so tight that the fabric puckers around the eyelets.
- At the last hole, tie a temporary knot.
Now sit in the chair. If one section sags or pulls, adjust the cord along the side, then tie the final knot, trim the extra and remove the zip ties. Do the other side the same way.
If both sides have stretched, replace both, so the seat sits level and does not lean toward the old cord.
How to choose
First check how your chair holds its fabric. These cords are for chairs whose fabric is laced to the frame with elastic cord through eyelets. If the fabric slides into a channel in the frame instead, it is a sling chair and needs sling spline. If it hangs on hooks or bolts, it does not use cord at all.
Then look at the old lacing. Most chairs use one long cord down each side, but some use more than one, or pass the cord through each hole twice. Count the cords and note where each starts and ends before you remove anything.
If both sides are tired, plan to re-lace both at the same time, so the tension matches.
Questions
Will these fit my chair?
They are made for folding zero gravity and anti-gravity recliners that lace the fabric to the frame with elastic cord. If your chair is laced that way, thread them the same way as the old cords and trim any extra.
Should I replace both sides at once?
If both have stretched, yes. A new cord on one side and an old one on the other makes the seat lean and puts more strain on the new side.
How tight should the cord be?
Snug enough that the fabric is flat and does not sag, but not so tight that it puckers around the eyelets. Tie a temporary knot, sit in the chair, then adjust and tie the final knot.
My chair has metal clips on the cord ends. Can I still use these?
Yes. You can knot the ends instead, or reuse the old clips if they are in good shape. Knot or clip at the same points the old cord was fixed.
